Vice President, Philanthropy and Community Engagement

Community HousingWorks is seeking a successful Philanthropy and Community Engagement leader in San Diego. The right person will feel at home growing and changing along with CHW – an entrepreneurial affordable housing and services nonprofit that every year grows our apartments, our residents served and our services.
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President, Philanthropy and Community Engagement (VP) serves as a key Leadership Team member and an active participant in making strategic fund development and outward-facing communications decisions affecting Community HousingWorks (CHW) philanthropic presence and goals. In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities, and forging new relationships to build CHW's visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP also designs and implements a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
The Vice President, Philanthropy and Community Engagement is primarily responsible for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $2.6M budget through the solicitation of principal and major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support. They expand and diversify CHW's donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the VP works closely with the board of directors and supports board members as they take on a more active fundraising role. It is expected that the amount raised by CHW will increase in future years as the VP systematically and effectively builds new supportive relationships and partnerships, and strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: the art and science of philanthropy and the four distinct phases of a donor cycle, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and development office functions including gift processing and acknowledgement, prospect and donor profiles and histories, database implementation and fundraising reporting. The individual is also expected to have demonstrated experience and confidence in asking people to contribute time and money. Familiarity with computer systems, including CRM databases, is necessary.
